Pune: Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Pune Warriors by 35 runs in the 57th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) played at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, Pune, India.
The Pune Warriors’ top order batsmen let down their team early in the innings and thus the Pune, chasing target of 174 runs, ended their innings at 138 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Robin Uthappa who scored 38 runs was the leading run-scorer from Pune followed by Majumdar 31 and Steven Smith 24.
Star former Srilankan bowler Muttiah Muralitharan along with other Bangalore bowled exceptionally well to avoid the Pune team to reach the target. Vinay Kumar who took thre wickets remained the leading wicket taker while Zaheer Khan and Muralitharan shared two wickets. Patel and Appanna also took one wicket each.
Earlier the star opening pair of Bangalore comprised of Chris Gayle and Dilshan once again played exceptionally well for their team and scored 57 and 53 runs respectively. The team later set a target of 173 runs.
