Dhaka: Bangladesh is observing countrywide shutdown and protests on third consecutive day on the call of Bangladesh National Party (BNG), the opposition party.
Various parts of Dhaka including Mirpur, Azimpur and Tejgaon observed complete transport strike but trains, planes and launch services were at normal while Schools have also been affected by the strike.
The BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan remained cordoned off on Tuesday, like the previous two days.
A search was carried out at the residence of BNP standing committee member A S M Hannan Shah in the morning, BDNEWS24 reported.
Opposition activists attempted to take out processions at various parts but they were dispersed by the police. T
The protesters reportedly torched two cars at Karwan Bazar in the morning.
The BNP has said its chairperson Khaleda Zia will hold a news conference on Tuesday evening where she is expected to announce new programmes from there.
The BNP organising secretary M Ilias Ali has been missing for a week. Police recovered his abandoned car from a street in Mohakhali on Apr 18.
The opposition has been alleging that the government was behind Ilias Ali’s ‘enforced disappearance’. The government, however, has refuted the allegations.
