Lahore: Claims of Punjab government to investigate embezzlement in Laptop Distribution proved to be only boastings as no committee has formed to look into the matter.
Earlier, the provincial government announced a three-member committee of senior professors to investigate laptop scandal for the misuse of government recourses.
Punjab government is distributing over 1,00,000 laptops in students across the provincial educational institutes.
“The provincial has not formed a single committee for laptop scandal investigation,” sources said.
“Three committees which are termed neutral investigation committees in fact are working from the day first of the project. Their foremost responsibility is to prepare lists of students and to monitor distribution of laptops.”
Out of the three committees, first committee is working with title of ‘Grievance Committee’ with task to address grievances of those students, whose names were not included in the lists.
Second committee works under District Coordination Officers (DCOs) of respective districts with main task of rechecking the prepared lists so that no deserving student missed from the entry.
And third committee ensures to right distribution of laptops in deserving students after distribution ceremony.
A member of that committee revealed on the condition of anonymity that no committee was formed to investigate the corruption in computer purchasing.
Meanwhile the provincial government spokesman senator Pervaz Rasheed said that project committees were working but as such no committee was working on embezzlement in laptops purchasing.
