OpenAI, the innovative AI startup, has announced a new partnership with the popular social media platform Reddit. This collaboration aims to enhance ChatGPT’s ability to understand and process Reddit content, providing users with more timely and current information.
The partnership, announced in a Reddit blog post on Thursday, is set to benefit ChatGPT users by delivering up-to-date content and a greater awareness of current events. While the free version of ChatGPT 3.5 is updated only until September 2021, and ChatGPT 4 until August 2023, this new development will ensure that ChatGPT has access to more recent and relevant information.
Previously, OpenAI had stated that it trains its large language models using publicly available internet information, licensed third-party data, and user and trainer inputs. However, the company faced legal challenges, including a lawsuit filed in April by eight newspapers alleging unauthorized use of their content.
Concerns about ChatGPT’s training data also emerged from Reddit users last year. Despite these issues, the partnership now officially integrates Reddit content into ChatGPT’s capabilities.
“We are thrilled to partner with Reddit to enhance ChatGPT with unique, timely, and relevant information,” said Brad Lightcap, Chief Operating Officer of OpenAI. Reddit, in turn, commended platforms like OpenAI for their role in fostering human learning and building online communities.
This collaboration promises to significantly improve the richness and accuracy of the information available to ChatGPT users, leveraging Reddit’s vast and dynamic content ecosystem.
