Karachi: Danish Kaneria, Pakistan’s test leg-spinner is obviously jolted by the fixing allegations leveled by his county team mate, Marven Westfield, however is upbeat to clear his name once and for all and gearing up to face the disciplinary panel constituted by the English Cricket Board (ECB).
The lawyer of the lanky leg-spinner in Pakistan, Barrister Farogh Nasim has already sent a letter to the head of the ECB disciplinary panel, Mr. Gerald Elias, QC, in reply to the notice sent by the ECB to the UK based lawyer of Danish Kaneria earlier this month.
The News Tribe has acquired the 2-page letter sent to the ECB in which Farogh Naseem mentioned that Danish Kaneria would be represented, before the ECB disciplinary panel, by Time Solicitors, Barrister Stephen Hourigan and Barrister Farogh Naseem.
Kaneria’s lawyer further wrote that the ECB’s letter along with a bundle of 400 pages was received at the office of Time Solicitors, UK on April 5th and due to the Easter holidays the bundle has yet to reach Kaneria. Farogh Naseem sought until May 5th for a comprehensive reply after thorough study of the provided material.
The ECB, in the letter, gave Kaneria’s lawyer a deadline of April 10 to file a reply.
Kaneria’s lawyer has also asked the ECB to delay the hearing to give them ample time to review the 400-page evidence bundle.
Mervyn Westfield, the Essex county mate of Kaneria, was jailed for four months in February this year after he admitted to accepted money for under-performing during a Pro40 match between Essex and Durham in 2009.
The 23-year-old fast-bowler named Kaneria as the link between bookmakers and Essex players.
The Essex police did question Kaneria however released him in 2010 without charge.
