Karachi: CPI inflation increased by 10.8% on year-on-year basis in March 2012 as compared to 11% in the previous month and 13.% in March 2011.
On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.2% in March 2012 as compared to an increase by 0.3% in the previous month and an increase by 1.4% in March 2011.
The core inflation measured by non-food non-energy (NFNE) increased by 10.8% in March 2012 as compared to an increase of 10.6% in February 2012(YoY) and by 9.6 % in March 2011.
Core inflation (NFNE) on MoM basis increased by 1.0% in March 2012 as compared to 0.7% a month earlier and 0.8 % in March 2011. Core inflation, measured by 20% weighted trimmed mean increased by 10.5% in March 2012 and by 10.7% in February 2012 (YoY) which increased by 12.1% in March 2011.
Core inflation (Trimmed ) has increased by 0.8% on MoM basis in March 2012 compared with 0.5% in February 2012 and increased by 1.0% in March 2011.
Month-on-month Top few commodities which varied from previous month i.e. February 2012 are given
below:-
Food Items Increased: Pulse Gram (33.47%), Besan (23.79%), Fresh Fruits (17.12%), Sugar
(11.80%), Gram Whole (10.57%), Beans (5.57%), Fish (3.40%), Potatoes (3.07%), Pulse Moong
(2.54%), Vegetable Ghee (2.40%), Fresh Vegetables (2.20%), Nimco (2.14%) and, Cooking Oil
(2.06%).
Decreased: Tomatoes (32.12%), Onion (13.88%), Eggs (6.56%), Chicken (6.50%), Pulse Masoor
(2.65%) and Gur (2.25%).
a. Non-food Items Increased: Motor Vehicle Tax (20.34%), Footwear (14.25%), Kerosene Oil
(3.45%), Marriage Hall Charges (2.88%), Mechanical Services (2.83%), Utensils (2.75%), Dopatta
(2.48%), Stationery (2.32%), Woolen Cloth (2.19%), Doctor (MBBS) Clinic Fee (2.07%) and Motor
Fuel (2.05%).
Decreased: Woolen Readymade Garments (1.21%).
2. Year-on-year Top ten commodities which varied from previous year i.e. March 2011 are given below:-
a. Food Items Increased: Onions (44.93%), Gram Whole (33.27%), Pulse Gram (32.57%),
Condiments (29.06%), Besan (24.38%), Fresh Fruits (22.54%), Spices (21.30%), Eggs (20.18%),
Betel Leaves & Nuts (18.56%) and Milk Products (18.03%).
Decreased: Tomatoes (18.48%), Sugar (15.77%), Pulse Masoor (13.46%), Gur (13.19%), Pulse
Moong (10.94%), Pulse Mash (Washed) (9.25%), Potatoes (4.05%) and Wheat (0.12%).
b. Non-food Items Increased: Motor Vehicle Tax (52.02%), Household Servant (32.48%), Kerosene
Oil (29.86%), Gas (29.41%), Motor Fuel (27.53%), Firewood Whole (26.46%), Personal
Equipments (25.48%), Woolen Cloth (25.11%), Dopatta (22.05%) and Medical Equipments
(21.29%).
Decreased: Communication & Apparatus 0.68%).
