Karachi: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday announced to launch a targeted and sting operations against people involved in receiving extortion.
Talking to media at Karachi airport Malik claimed that Sindh police arrested almost 150 people involved in extortion across Karachi adding that MQM, PPP and ANP were against extortion.
“There is a gang war going on in Karachi,” he added.
Malik further assured the citizens of Karachi that he would eliminate extortion from the city adding that the criminals were running their business from different areas of the city and it was difficult to eliminate all of them but government is doing its best to overcome the problems.
“The numbers of policemen present in the city are not as much to overcome the problems and I have directed authorities to recruit 5000 more policemen,” Malik said.
Responding to a question regarding Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif’s criticism on President Asif Ali Zardari, Malik said that Shahbaz should restrain from using abuse words against President as he is Supreme Commander of Armed forces.
Malik further said that it was on record that Sharif brothers were exiled to Saudi Arabia after giving an apology in black and white to the authorities on the condition of not participating in politics for 10 years.
