Kabul: 12 Turkish soldiers were killed as a helicopter crashed into a house on the outskirts of the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Friday.
“The helicopter crashed into a house in Bagrami district of Kabul due to technical problems and policemen have taken out five bodies who are Turkish nationals,” the Afghan officer said.
Turkey has more than 1,800 soldiers serving in Afghanistan, most of them operating around the Afghan capital.
Unlike other European members of the Nato-led coalition, Turkey’s mission is limited to patrols and its soldiers do not take part in combat operations.
According to ISAF official release “Twelve International Security Assistance Force service members died following a helicopter crash in Kabul province. The cause of the crash is under investigation, however initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash.”
