Peshawar: A US drone fired barrage of missiles in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal region on Friday, killing at least a dozen people and injuring several others, sources said.
The sources said that the attack took place in Shakotoi Mandao in Tehseel Ladha area of South Waziristan Agency near Afghan border.
Pakistan has long been publicly opposing the US drone strikes, saying the strikes proved counter-productive in the war on terror.
However, some US officials assert thatthey have a tacit approval from Pakistani authorities to hit militants in the restive tribal region.
Relations between both the countries dipped to new low as a US cross border raid killed at least 26 Pakistani soldiers November last years. Pakistan closed Nato supply routes and got vacated the Shamsi airbase, which experts had been used as a base for dangerous US machines, in the aftermath of the cross border raid.
