Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Tuesday said that Mansoor Ijaz’s name would not be put on Exit Control List (ECL).
He said that he did not threaten anyone, adding that he had just said, “If parliamentary committee orders to put anyone’s name (Ijaz) on ECL then the orders would be complied with.”
Recording his statement before the commission probing the memogate scandal, he blamed media for misquoting him regarding Mansoor Ijaz. He told the commission that his statements were quoted out of context. He further told the commission that Ijaz would be provided foolproof security if he wanted to travel to Pakistan for appearing before the commission. “I am stating under oath that he (Ijaz) will be given full security,” he told the commission.
Earlier Malik was summoned by the commission to explain his statements about Mansoor Ijaz’s security.
During the proceedings, the commission took notice of Mansoor Ijaz’s absence and asked from his counsel Akram Sheikh why he did not appear before the commission. Sheikh told the commission that Ijaz was the prime witness, therefore, his security should be ensured.
Sheikh informed the commission that his client wanted to come to Pakistan but he was constantly receiving threats while on the other hand, he was not satisfied with the security provided by the interior ministry. Upon this the commission summoned Malik to appear before it and explain his statements regarding Mansoor Ijaz.
