Tehran: A Tehran court sentenced the daughter of influential former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani to six months in jail and banned from political activities over anti-state propaganda, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Tuesday.
Faezeh Hashemi, a political activist and former member of the Iranian parliament whose views are close to those of the reformists, was informed of the court’s verdict on Tuesday.
Faezeh Hashemi was also sentenced to a 5-year ban of political, cultural and media activities on the charges of propagandistic acts against the Islamic republic, said the report.
The former president’s daughter can appeal the sentence within 20 days.
Faezeh Hashemi has taken part in the protests against the disputed results of the presidential elections in June 2009 and was briefly detained for her involvement in the demonstrations.
