Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has expressed displeasure over Babar Awan’s December 1 press conference as nine-judge bench resumed hearing into the memogate case.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that court’s interim order in memogate case was ridiculed in the press conference held in a governmnet department (Press Information Department).
He asked the attorney general that the government should have take action against the secretary of the department.
The CJ asked whether Awan’s press conference was government’s point of view. Attorney General Mailvi Anwarul Haq gave answer in negation.
The CJ said that fair comments on the court’s orders have been tradition since long. “Whether you think we will digest all this,” the CJ inquired.
Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jailani asked Barrister Zaffarullah Jamali, one of the petitioners, to told the court about last paragraph of the memo. Barrister Zaffarullah Jamali argued in the court that a commission should be formed to probe the issue as DG ISI and Hussain Haqqani had also requested to do so.
