Peshawar: Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani on Sunday spent some time with commander 11-corps after attending funeral of Nato attack martyrs and visiting injured at CMH.
While having updates and ground details from the operational command here, the army chief underlined options and limitations after “intentional” attack by the NATO forces that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. “The chief’s participation in the funeral was to value the blood of martyred soldiers,” an official said.
The official told media on condition of anonymity that the 11-corps commander and other relevant high officials that attended the funeral of martyred soldiers along with army chief afterward had an informal session to review the critical situation emerged after the unprovoked attack.
“They unanimously described it an intentional attack,” the official said.
Nato fighter jets and helicopters targeted two Pakistani border posts in Mohmand tribal region Friday night, the action caused widespread condemnation across the country.
According to the official, the army chief took the operational command on board regarding the decisions of the cabinet committee on defense (DCC). At the same time the 11-corps commander briefed the informal meeting about the situation on ground in the Mohmand agency where the posts were attacked.
Top civilian and military leadership angrily reacted to the strikes decided to block supplies to NATO troops in Afghanistan. The Defence Committee of the Cabinet asked the U.S. to vacate Shamsi air base in Balochistan within 15 days.
