Islamabad: Pakistan has suspended the Nato supplies meant for US-led forces stationed in Afghanistan in the wake of recent Nato airstrike on its territory that led to killing of at least 25 security officials
Islamabad launched a strong protest over the attack, dubbing it violation of its sovereignty .
At least 25 Pakistani security officials, including two officers were killed and 14 others injured when Nato helicopters opened fire on Salala check-post in Mohmand tribal region near Afghan border on Saturday.
Pakistan is a vital land route for 49 per cent of Nato’s supplies to its troops in Afghanistan.
At another side a meeting of Pakistan’s top military commanders is underway amid reports of a strong backlash over Nato helicopters shelling on military check-post.
“We have halted the supplies and some 40 Nato tankers and trucks have been returned ,” government official Mutahir Zeb told Media.
Official sources confirmed the suspension of supplies, adding that all containers were stopped at the Takhta Baig check post in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency.
“We have suspended the supply and will not let even a single container move ahead,” the official added.
Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is presiding over the meeting to discuss the situation which triggered anti-American sentiments in the country over the cross border attacks despite country’s countless sacrifices during the war on terror.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has also said that no action against Pakistan’s would be tolerated.
