Kolkata: India clinched the three-match Test series against the West Indies after winning the second test match by an innings and 15 runs at Eden Gardens on Thursday.
West Indies failed to fight despite Darren Bravo’s stylish 136 and faces a heavy defeat against India on the fourth day of the second test.
Fast bowler Umesh Yadav took four wickets while Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets as the hosts bowled out the tourists for 463 to win the match by an innings and 15 runs, and claim an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
Bravo hit 136 while Marlon Samuels and veteran Chanderpaul also fought hard with 84 and 47 respectively to stave off a defeat which was confirmed in the afternoon session on day four as India sealed an innings and 15-run victory.
Captain Darren Sammy made a dashing 32 off 37 balls with one four and three sixes, but the end always inevitable.
Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni praised the entire team for the series-clinching win in the second Test against the West Indies here and said it was inspiring to see his young bowlers “hunting in packs”.
