ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani called on President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday and discussed with him the prevailing security situation of the country.
Political commentators give significance to the meeting between the president and General Kayani in the backdrop of the prevailing political situation of the country and the alleged message of President Zardari to US President Barak Obama through US-Pakistani businessmen that General Kayani wanted to topple his government. Â Noted commentator Najam Sethi says the meeting between President Zardari and Kayani was about the issue.
Following the COAS meeting with the president, US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter also called on the president.
A President House statement said that matters pertaining to Pakistan Army also came under discussion in the meeting held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr between Zardari and Kayani. It said that US Ambassador Cameron Munter called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday night. Pakistan-US bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting, the statement said.
