Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has said the constitution has determined the role of the military and any unconstitutional act by the armed forces shall be deemed as seditious.
Speaking with a delegation of the National Defence University who called on him at the Supreme Court on Saturday, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said any unconstitutional step of the military comes into the ambit of treason and article 6 would be used over violations of constitution and the law.
 The CJ said that the Supreme Court had declared in its July 31 verdict that anybody who would violate the constitution would be considered as traitor.
 He said that the judges of higher courts had written in their code of conduct that no judge would take oath under the PCO.
 The CJP further said that the powers of the judiciary and the executive had been elaborated in the constitution so that the institutions should refrain from intervening into each other’s domains.
 The Chief Justice said that no single person or institution can solely lead the nation to a right direction but only the collective effort by all the institutions and the nation can lead the country to a destination of hope and prosperity
 He said that the constitution has been the supreme law of the land and the state institutions are its organs. The constitution has devised the powers of the legislature, judiciary and the executive, he said adding that the institutions should function within their constitutional limits.
 Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said the constitution has been the supreme law and the state has been bound to this law. He said the powers of judiciary have been described in the constitution and the judicial system of Pakistan has been functioning under the constitution.
 He stressed that coordination and harmony among the state’s different institutions would help Pakistan to progress politically as well as economically.
 All state institutions should work within their perimeters of influence, Justice Iftikhar said, adding that the constitution guarantees the judiciary’s independence.
