Karachi: Judiciary in Pakistan has not been performing upto the markĀ since 1947.
Around 88 subordinate courts are still non-functional in Sindh alone, the second biggest province of Pakistan.
According to The News Tribe investigation report, there are 437 district courts in Sindh but due to shortage of judges, 88 courts are inactive and because of this around 1,06,253 cases are still pending.
In Karachi, 11 courts are non-functional out of 13 in Malir district, six out of 35 in Karachi south, two out of 26 in Karachi central and five out of 36 in Karachi east.
Similarly, eight courts are inactive out of 20 in Shikarpur, four out of 13 in Shahdadkot, two out of 10 in Kashmor Kandhkot, three out of 10 in Jacobabad, four out of 22 in Larkana, two out of 16 in Sukkur, three out of 16 in Ghotki, 9 courts out 26 in Khairpur, five out of 19 in Dadu, three out of 13 in Badin, threeĀ out of 13 in Thatta, three out of nineĀ in Tharparkar, two out of 11 in Jamshoro, two out of 14 in Benazirabad, three out of 13 in Mirpurkhas, seven out of 18 in Noshero feroze and three out of 17 subordinate courts are non-functional in Sanghar district.
The report also pointed out that 88 posts of judges are vacant in Sindh.Ā One district session judge, two additional district judge and and 85 judicial magistrate among the posts. It is to be mentioned that, in Sindh, appointment of judges in Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) courts was made by the orders of Chief Justice of Pakistan.
According to another report, in September around 1,06,235 cases were registered. Which include more than 6,000 criminal, 34,977 civil and 11,231 cases related to family disputes.
