Karachi: Pakistan possesses enormous potential in the form of human and natural resources, as well as a geographical advantage in terms of trade routes. This was stated by H.E. Dr. Tilo Klinner, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany posted in Karachi, during a visit to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Head Office on Thursday.
Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, President-FPCCI welcomed Dr. Klinner at Federation House and thanked him for visiting FPCCI. Also accompanying the President were Vice Presidents-FPCCI, Mr. Dawood Usman Jakhura and Mr. Khalid Tawab.
While discussing trade and investment between Pakistan and Germany, Dr. Klinner stated that Germany was inclined to granting market access to Pakistan not only in EU but elsewhere also, as it is the best way to help Pakistan in its trouble times.
He said Germany was also looking into the possibility of investing in Pakistan’s coal mining sector, as well as opportunities for collaboration that existed in public transport, waste disposal, water management and education.
However, while acknowledging the presence of vast opportunities in these areas, he lamented that there was a deficit of implementation of projects utilizing these opportunities.
The Consul General expressed interest in the Foreign Investment Conference being held by FPCCI in December 2011, and assured the President that he would send a representative to attend it to explore further opportunities for collaboration between Pakistan and Germany.
The President-FPCCI, while acknowledging Germany’s powerful role within the EU, expressed his gratitude for Germany’s role in pushing for greater access for Pakistani goods to European markets and the GSP Plus status in 2014.
He urged the Consul General to lobby with his Government for greater investment in quality, low-priced education and training in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The meeting was concluded with the presentation of the FPCCI Crest to Mr. Klinner.
