Islamabad: As US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits Islamabad as part of American efforts to woo Pakistani leadership to go after Haqqani network, experts say her visit doesn’t seem to improve the bilateral relations between the sometime allies in war on terror, which plunges into new low after the US top officials accused ISI of waging proxy war in Afghanistan.
Commenting on Hillary’s body language during her news conference with Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar, former Pakistani foreign minister and senior politician Shah Mehmood Qureshi says he doesn’t see any improvement in the relations as Clinton repeatedly asks for military action in Pakistan’s western areas which Islamabad does not want as All Parties Conference agreed to “give peace a chance”.
Rustam Shah Mehmond, Pakistan’s ex-envoy to Afghanistan, says Hillary Clinton’s visit was aimed at improving bilateral relations but the situation doesn’t seem to be changed as the US is not ready to back off from its demands of military campaign. “I think the visit will lead to bring more tensions” he added.
Senior journalist Naseem Zehra says Hillary Clinton remained very cold during the news conference and it seems that there was a stalemate.
