Pakistan is not Iraq, Afghanistan: Army chief

Islamabad: Pakistan’s army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that Pakistan is not Afghanistan or Iraq and the United States would have to think “10 times” before taking any unilateral action.

According to media reports, the army chief told parliament’s defence committees on Tuesday that the problem exists in Afghanistan not in Pakistan so  US should focus on stability in Kabul instead of pressing Islamabad to attack militant groups.

He told the members of committees  that the situation  in North Waziristan had improved and Pakistan itself would  decide on initiating any offensive  in the North Waziristan region against militants.

“All intelligence agencies have contacts with militant groups. Don’t the CIA and MI6 (the British spy agency)  have such contacts? It is through these contacts that we get information,” Kayani said.
