Kabul: Afghan legislators have demanded the government to cut off diplomatic ties with Islamabad after a report revealed that Pakistani forces had fired 40 rockets into Afghanistan over the past two days.
Afghan officials said that the recent artillery rounds have hit a number of villages in Nari district of the eastern province of Kunar. They also say 150 Afghan families have been forced out of their homes in the troubled region.
The recent cross-border attacks have prompted lawmakers in Kabul to ask President Hamid Karzai to end all diplomatic ties with Islamabad.
Afghan government officials said that the shelling of Kunar and Nangarhar provinces has left several civilians dead and injured many others over the past few months.
Kabul has repeatedly threatened to cut diplomatic relations with Islamabad if the shelling continues.
Some Afghan lawmakers blamed President Karzai in the past for not doing enough to force the Islamabad for ending the attacks.
Afghan officials say they are in talks with Pakistani authorities. There have been no concrete results yet.
Pakistan claims the rocket strikes are in response to attacks against its territory from Afghanistan, dismissing allegations that it is targeting civilians.
Tensions between the two neighbouring countries have escalated in recent weeks.
