Cape Town: Australia defeated South Africa by five wickets in the first T20 match of the two-game series on Thursday thanks to a swift half century by all rounder Shane Watson.
Australia reached the target of 147 in 19.3 overs. Watson scored 52 off 39 delivers. His innings included two sixes and six fours. Shaun Marsh and David Hussey managed 25 each. Skipper Cameron White scored 28 off 22 balls.
Watson was declared man of the match.
Four players from Australia Bollinger, Cummins, Pattinson and Wade made their debut.
The next game will be played on Oct 16.
