Islamabad: Pakistan’s Petroleum Ministry has recommended the cabinet committee to impose gas tax on consumers.
A decision in this regard will be taken in the meeting of the cabinet committee on Wednesday.
If the committee endorses the recommendation of the ministry, a bill will be sent to the parliament.
The ministry has advised that taxes should be collected from people for the Pakistan-Iran-Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline project.
According to a summary, all expenditures worth Rs860 billion of the project would be distributed among the four countries. Pakistan has to pay Rs150-200 billion, according to the summary.
The ministry also advised the government to subsidise LPG and LNG.
