Islamabad: Senior Advocate Supreme Court and former Law Minister Syed Iftikhar Gillani, who was counsel of Awami National Party (ANP) in the Karachi suo motu case, has said that after the SC verdict in Karachi case, the government has no moral justification to continue anymore.
In an interview, Iftikhar Gilani said the SC in its verdict explicitly declared that both the federal and provincial government of Sindh failed in discharging their constitutional obligations and responsibilities of protecting the lives and properties of the citizens. After the verdict it should have been better for the government to go home, he added.
Regarding the SC verdict he said that the SC did what it had the authority under the constitution and it could not go beyond its constitutional domain. He said that the apex court had given clear directives to the government for ensuring security of life and property of citizens of Karachi.
He apprehended that the government would not implement the SC verdict. To a question about the political parties having militant wings, he said that the apex court had provided an opportunity to the parties to disband their militant wings, otherwise they could be banned.
