Kabul: A polis soldier was killed and two others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in the central Afghan province of Ghazni, says Poland’s Defense Ministry.
Private 1st Class Rafal Nowakowski died when his unit’s vehicle went over an improvised explosive device (IED) on Tuesday, AFP reported.
Some 2,600 Polish troops have been deployed in Afghanistan’s Ghazni Province since the 2001 US-led invasion in the war-ravaged country.
Tuesday’s death brought the number of Polish soldiers killed in Afghanistan to 30.
The European country’s last death in Afghanistan was in August, when a roadside bomb hit another patrol in Ghazni and killed soldier Szymon Sitarczuk.
The increasing number of troop casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.
Security situation in Afghanistan remained insecure despite the presence of nearly 150,000 US-led forces in the country.
