Islamabad: Majority of Pakistani men give high (41 %) or modest (42 %) importance to the education of prospective wife when making marital decisions. Only 10 percent disregard it, according to the survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan.
In a survey a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces were asked the following question: “In terms of education, when you select a proposal how much would you prefer for an educated one?” Responding to this 41 percent said that that they highly prefer an educated woman where as 42 percent said that they modestly prefer an educated woman. However 10 percent would prefer a non educated one and 7 percent did not give a view.
Question (asked if men): “In terms of education, when you select a proposal (for a wife) how much would you prefer for an educated one?”
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1508 men of various age groups in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during September 18 – September 24, 2011. Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95 percent confidence level.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
