Dhaka: The new Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim is only 23 years old but has got enough experience to be able to guide his team well, said experts on Wednesday.
Mushfiqur was named the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team on Tuesday as Shakib al Hasan was sacked following the disastrous tour to Zimbabwe.
The wicket keeper batsman, who made his test debut in 2005, has played 24 tests and has an impressive average of 27 besides good wicket keeping statistics. He has also played 98 one day matches since 2006 and has an average of over 25, again very impressive, in addition to his fine wicket keeping. He has 29 stumpings and 65 catches to his credit.
The 25-year-old Mahmudullah, who has been named vice captain, is an average all rounder. He has an average of 34 in tests and 30 in one day matches. Besides, he has 23 wickets from 10 test matches and 40 from 73 one day internationals.
Experts said the record of Shakib al Hasan as captain was not bad and he should have given more opportunities after the failure in Zimbabwe. Now that he has been relieved of the burden of leading the side, he is expected to improve his batting and bowling even further. He is regarded as one of the finest all rounders in the world.
