Los Angeles: A California school was evacuated after a bomb threat allegedly made by a soldier.
According to the media reports, more than 3,000 students and teachers at the San Clemente High School streamed out onto a sports field after the threat, reportedly from a soldier missing from the nearby Camp Pendleton base, south of Los Angeles.
“At the direction of sheriff’s officers, the entire SCHS staff and student body have been evacuated because of a bomb threat,” said a message on the school s website.
“Security personnel and officers are guarding the stadium and prohibiting entry onto the campus…. Students are in the process of being moved to the gymnasium so they will be out of the sun,” it added.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino said the written threat was discovered among the belongings of a missing Navy corpsman at Camp Pendleton.
“In his barracks they found a note that he placed explosives at San Clemente High School. The high school has been evacuated, 3,200 students, 180 staff have been evacuated. The entire school has been locked down, secured,” he said.
