Multan: Medical personnel at Fatima Jinnah Women Hospital (FJH) in Multan demonstrated the benefits that new equipment and trainings opportunities have made to their standard of care on Thursday, as USAID Mission Director Andrew Sisson visited the facility.
FJH is one of more than 80 Pakistani medical facilities the United States has renovated in recent years in Pakistan. “Most maternal deaths can be prevented with professional medical care,” Director Sisson said.
“With these upgrades and improved trainings, Fatima Jinnah Hospital will deliver better care to mothers and infants in Multan.”
To assist in improvements to maternal and child health care throughout the country, USAID is purchasing medical equipment and supplies, while also training medical professionals, including midwives, female health workers, and other medical staff.
During his tour, Director Sisson was joined by the Executive District Officer for Health and the Medical Superintendent of the Fatima Jinnah Women’s Hospital. The group discussed staffing at the hospital among other issues.
Today, fewer than 40 percent of Pakistani women receive skilled medical care during childbirth. Most maternal deaths can be prevented with professional medical care. The US is working with Pakistan to reduce the number of women who go without trained medical care during their pregnancy and childbirth.
