Northampton: Rahul Dravid, recalled to India’s one-day squad after a gap of two years, announced on Saturday that he would quit playing the shorter formats of the game to focus on test cricket.
He was recalled to the one-day squad earlier in the day. Known as ‘The Wall’ among Indian cricket fans, Dravid has scored more than 10,750 runs in 339 one-day games with an average of 39.
The Indore (Madhya Pardesh)-born Dravid has scored 12 one-day centuries in addition to 34 in tests.
The 38-year-old middle order batsman is the second highest runs scorer in tests. He has been the only successful batsman in the current tour of England. He scored centuries in both tests played so far, which, however, failed to prevent his team’s defeats.
England is the country where he made his debut 16 years ago. He scored 95 runs in his first test.
