Karachi: A multi-storey building collapsed into a heap of a ruble in Lyari area of Karachi on Thursday .
According to reports a five-storey building collapsed in Moosa Lane area near Kausar Mosque. Police have also evacuated adjacent building to avoid any other incident. Rescue workers said nine people, including two children were killed and several others were still trapped under the debris.
Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Hussaun told media that 40 to 50 people were feared trapped under the debris.
Police said that several people were buried under the rubble. Large number of rescue workers, including Edhi and Chhipa ambulances reached the spot. While an emergency was declared in Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Police said that at least 10 families were living in the building. Police have sealed off the area to stop the people from entering the scene so that rescue worker could carry out relief work with out any hindrance. However pace of the relied work was very slow due to congested streets as heavy machinery was not able to move easily there.
Media reports said that 20 people, including women and children were recovered and shifted to the CHKÂ for treatment.
