Islamabad: Afghan Parliamentarian Huma Sultani has claimed that Mullah Omar is still in Afghanistan though he left Kabul after Afghan president refused direct peace talks with him through her.
In a telephonic conversation with a Pakistani news agency, Online on Friday, the member of the Afghan parliament’s lower house, Wolasi Jirga, Sultani said that she met with the Afghan President Hamid Karzai many times in the last two months but now he clearly said that he cannot hold talks with Taliban Supreme Commander Mullah Omer in Afghanistan.
“I met with Karzai 11 times to convince him for peace talks with Mullah Omer. But I think, the president was under pressure from former jihadi leaders who are parts of his government and US,” she claimed.
To a question, Sultani said that the impression that she was brokering peace indirectly on behalf of US is totally wrong. “I and other Afghans think that the government of Afghanistan should be in the hands of neutral Afghanis, who have no links with US or others. But could think for Afghanistan only,” she added.
Sultani said that she prepared a peace proposal and handed it over through Mullah Baseer to Mullah Omar and that proposal was also clear on the issue like as who should be in power in the country. When the Afghan parliamentarian was asked as what were the important points in the proposal, she said that the proposal was very clear that neither the former Jihadis nor the Taliban would be in future government in Afghanistan.
“We had also proposed that the next agreed government would comprise on neutral Afghans who would have no links with any power as far as performance of their duties in government are concerned,” she said, adding that the proposal also sheds light on reforms in the government system in Afghanistan and proposed that Afghan patriotic experts must be part of the government.
The proposal stressed that the individuals in the government must be servant of only and only Afghan people and not of US, which in fact has enhanced insecurity in the country.
“Our wish in proposing the peace in the country was that Afghan should successfully control the country as soon as possible and all other forces should left the region in the greater interest of peace,” Sultani said.
Huma Sultani claimed that Mullah Omar agreed on this formula, but Karzai was under pressure to accept the conditions like “neither former Jihadis, nor Taliban would be part of the government”.
It is pertinent to mention that a couple of days ago, the Afghan parliamentarian had been claiming for a month she had several meetings with Mullah Omar, who called her as his sister, at outskirt of Afghanistan’s capital and the Taliban are willing for peace talks. She was saying that she met him 28th June last but Karzai had not responded to her request. So far Taliban has not rebuffed her claims of meetings with Mullah Omar, nor did the Afghan president reject her claims.
