Guwahti: Separatists exploded a blast on a railway track and damaged a train in India’s Assam State on Sunday, left at least 50 people injured.
Three coaches of the Guwahati-Puri Express derailed at Nalbari district in western Assam, officials said, adding that casualties were feared as several injured were in critical condition.
The accident occurred near Ghograpara at around 8:30 pm (local time) as the train was on its way to Puri.
Police and railway teams were rushing to the spot.
Police and railway officials said they were not sure whether the derailment was caused by the blast or a technical fault.
Local villagers, however, claimed to have heard a loud explosion before the accident.
Earlier in the day, another train accident took place in Utter Perdesh State of India in which 14 coaches of Delhi bound Kalka Express derailed, leaving at least 35 people dead and some 250 injured.
