Islamabad: Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan has made it clear that the investigation into killing of journalist Salim Shahzad will be completed within 6 weeks.
She said this while talking to media men here Thursday outside the parliament house.
She held that government would not escape by throwing the ball in the court of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
A 5-member commission under Supreme Court judge Justice Saqib Nisar has been constituted to probe into the Salim Shahzad killing case.
It will conclude its investigation and recommendations and present the report to government within 6 weeks on this count, she added. It depends on Justice Saqib Nisar either he becomes chairman of the commission or other wise.
Awan further said media would monitor all the process of investigation into killing of journalist Salim Shahzad.
No consultation was made with CJP about constitution of commission to probe into May 2 incident, she indicated. Therefore, no consultation had been made with him in connection with this commission, she maintained. Any wrong impression in this respect should stand dispelled. Supreme Court is for all of us.
Every thing in the country owes its existence to democracy, she said adding if democratic institutions would be there then every one would enjoy fundamental rights. If media is strong then government will be strong, she added.
She stressed, “We will have to come out of process of point scoring and uncalled for criticism.
