Peshawar: A US drone fired missiles in Shawal area of North Waziristan tribal region, killing four people and injuring several others, sources said on Monday.
The sources said the US unmanned aircraft targeted a vehicle in DarNashtara area. The attack came a few hours after US Predators fired several missiles in Wana district of South Waziristan near Afghan border targeting a religious seminary and a house, killing 17 people and injuring several others. There was no information about the identities of the deceased while security officials claimed that at least seven foreigners were also killed in South Waziristan drone strike. However independent sources did not confirmed the report.Â
The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) intensified drone campaign in northwest Pakistan’s tribal region after the Pakistani Parliament approved a joint resolution demanding review of relations with the US and a halt in drone attacks. The US considered the unmanned aircrafts a major weapon against the Taliban and al-Qaeda insurgents who according to the US authorities have safe heavens in Pakistani areas bordering Afghanistan. Pakistan has been opposing the attacks saying the the strikes proved counterproductive.
