Islamabad: Pakistan and India failed to make any headway over the contentious issue of Siachen glacier during their two-day defence secretaries-level talk ended in New Delhi here on Tuesday.
Sources said that both the sides remained stuck to their respective positions and no headway could made during the two-day talks.
However, after the two-day dialogue, both the countries while welcoming their dialogue process agreed to continue discussions on Siachen in a “meaningful and result-oriented manner.” No joint statement was issued after the talks, as both the countries’ Foreign offices separately issued statement regarding the talks.
The Pakistan delegation was led by Defence Secretary former Lt. General Syed Athar Ali and the Indian delegation was led by Shri Pradeep Kumar, Defence Secretary.
“Both sides welcomed the ongoing dialogue process. The discussions were held in a frank and cordial atmosphere, contributing to an enhanced understanding of each other’s position on Siachen,” a statement of Pakistan Foreign Office issued here in Islamabad said.
Pakistan and India also acknowledged that the ceasefire was in place since November 2003. Both sides presented their positions and suggestions towards the resolution of Siachen.
The Pakistan side presented a non-paper on Siachen. Pakistan and India also agreed to meet again at a mutually convenient date in Islamabad.
