Islamabad: Prime Minister Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has urged the international community for lending more support to Pakistan as it was conscientiously fighting the war against terror.
“Pakistan has hugely paid in terms of casualties and economy.
We are fighting the war which benefits the whole world,” the Prime Minister told a Chinese media delegation at the PM House on Thursday.
The 19-member delegation headed by Wang Dongmei, Vice President of China Radio International comprised journalists from Shanghai Dragon television, China Radio International and Tencent web portal.
Gilani said the war on terror is not confined to one nation but it is worldwide problem, which need to be dealt accordingly.
“Instead of mere criticism, the world needs to show more cooperation towards Pakistan,” PM Gilani said.
Gilani also mentioned the role of Chinese media which is positively portraying the situation in Pakistan divergent to the partial international media.
“The positive messages both from the Chinese leadership and the Chinese media are a sense of hope for the people in Pakistan,” he said.
Dongmei apprised the prime minister about the delegation’s visit to Pakistan’s main cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Gilgit. She said it is their common observation that the situation in Pakistan as described by the international media reports is not true.
She said the visiting delegation had prepared some 200 news and television reports which would dissipate positive message about the real situation in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Gilani emphasized for enhancing Sino-Pak relationships through people-to-people contacts and the cultural and parliamentary exchanges. He termed economic cooperation with China as the utmost priority besides collaboration in fields of defence, culture, energy and construction of dams.
In response to a query on the Atta Abad’s quick lake affecting the transportation on Silk Route between Pakistan and China, Gilani said the matter has discussed with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao who agreed to help Pakistan.
GIlani discussed with Premier Wen about helping Pakistan in constructing a road linking Karachi motorway with Faisalabad. He said like the Silk Route, this viable project could also become a symbol of Pak-China friendship.
He called for more cooperation between the sister cities of Karachi and Shanghai.
