Peshawar: A suicide car bomber hit his vehicle with a police check post in Cantt area of Peshawar, the northern area of Pakistan, in the early hours of Wednesday, killing five and injuring 19 others, police and rescue sources said.
The suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle with the CID police check-post, collapsed the police station located in Cantt area, the highly sensitive area of Peshawar, close to Gora Qabrustan, Peshawar. The explosion rattled whole Peshawar city area and also conked out the windows of nearest buildings.
It is stated that the some 400 to 500 kgs explosive material was used in the blast.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and started shifting the injured to Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Hospital for treatment. Medical emergency was imposed in the city hospitals.
Rescue sources said that at least 30 to 35 people were inside the check-post at the time of the incident. The causalities may rise as four injured were serious.
Pakistan Army and security forces have cordoned off the area and started search operation. University road has been closed for all kind of traffic.
Senior provincial minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, soon after the blast, visited to the spot and strongly condemned the blast, terming the blast as cowardly incident. He said our people have been killed and a few people say that it is not our war.
He said no party could individually eliminate terrorism. He said it is our war and terrorist would not be tolerated.
