Honshu: A magnitude 6.0 earthquake has hit off at the east coast of Honshu, Japan, the China Earthquake Networks Center says. The epicenter of the quake, which struck at around 0340 GMT on Tuesday, was monitored at 39.8 degrees north latitude and 143.2 degrees east longitude with a depth of 30 km, Xinhua reported.
The earthquake was felt in the Japanese capital, Tokyo.
No damage or casualties have been reported so far, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries and experiences thousands of tremors each year.
On March 11, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake off the northeast coast of Japan’s main island, unleashed a 23-foot (7-meter) tsunami and was followed by more than 50 aftershocks for hours.
According to Japan’s National Police Agency, the twin disasters left over 28,000 people dead and missing.
The destructive tsunami and quake also sparked a radiation leak at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
