Washington: Al Qaeda was eying NATO oil tankers as possible targets of terror attacks in Pakistan, the United States government said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Department informed Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies that al Qaida was planning to hijack oil tankers and then blow them up.
But there was no intelligence indicating to a specific plot or threat. It was not immediately clear whether the details about the attacks were coming from Osama bin Laden’s compound.
The US intelligence officials are sifting through a treasure trove of information coming out of materials taken from the former al Qaeda leader’s hideout in Pakistan earlier this month after he was shot dead by the US special commandos.
