Islamabad: British Foreign and Commonwealth Minister, Alistair Burt has reached Islamabad Monday on his first visit to Pakistan. Simon Fraser, Permanent Under-Secretary at the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, accompanied him.
On the first day of his tour, the British Foreign Minister met President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Interior Minister, Rehman Malik. He held wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relations between two countries.
Alistair Burt said while talking to the journalists that his visit was a follow-up of British Prime Minster David Cameron’s recent visit, and to reinforce the United Kingdom’s strong commitment to Pakistan.
He said that this is an important time for the people of Pakistan, who have suffered so much at the hands of terrorists.
“I am delighted to visit Pakistan for the first time, since I took over responsibility as Minister for South Asia at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. I have been encouraged through all my meetings at the positive action being taken by the Pakistanis to work towards building a more stable and secure future. We are committed to continue to work together to build that future”, he added.
