Islamabad: An influential US Senator and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee John Kerry met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to discuss the killing of Osama bin Laden and the relation between the to countries after Abbottabad operation.
Sources said that the prime minister told Kerry that unilateral operations by the US violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and the country has serious reservations over the incident. He informed the US senator about the enrage prevailing in the country against the US over the operation.
Gilani reiterated that Pakistan wanted to maintain ties with America based on equality and mutual respect. “Pakistan was not taken into confidence regarding operation that led to increase in mistrust between the two allies” he added.
Senator Kerry said that imperative steps had to be taken by Pakistan while his country wanted Pakistan to take on board. “Emphasis should be on improving bilateral relations between the two countries” he added.
Earlier in the night John Kerry met Pakistan’s army chief Ashfaq Pervez Keyani .The army chief apprised Kerry about intense feelings of rank and file of Pakistan Army on Abbotabad incident.
US media said Kerry would influence whether the United States continues to provide billions of dollars in aid to an ally that many in Washington believe harbors Islamist militants.
