Ipoh: Australia after a tough game defeated Pakistan by 3-2 in the first half of the extra time of the final of 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Hockey Tournament 2011, lifted Azlan Shah trophy sixth time on Sunday.
After the completion of regular period, Pakistan and Australia were at 2-2 and the match was bound to be decided in the extra time where Aussies raised their game and attacked Pakistan goal with purpose where Ciriello converted a penalty corner with a drag-flick in the right corner of the goal and scored his second goal of the evening.
Australia took lead on two occasions but Pakistan bounced back on both occasions to square the odds. Australia took the lead in the 11th minute when Ciriello put Australia in front with a beautiful goal and kept their dominance over proceedings by keeping the ball in possession.
Pakistan looked far more composed after the goal and upped their efforts to take lead but Aussies denied their moves.
Pakistan played beautifully in the final and through the tournament.
