Peshawar: A man was killed in a blast in Peshawar, northwest area of Pakistan, on Tuesday evening, local police said.
The police said the blast took place in a vehicle in Khyber Super Market area of Saddar, Peshawar. As a result, a journalist Nasrullah Arfidi sustained severe injuries and died on the spot, The News Tribe correspondent reported.
Provincial Minister Syed Aqil Shah rushed to the spot and confirmed the death of the Afridi, and said the blast was planted. Explosive device was installed in the vehicle no R-2003.
The deceased was the correspondent of The News and Daily Mashrik and was hailed from Khyber Agency. Afridi moved to Peshawar from Khyber Agency two-year ago following the threats from militants. Afridi has also been kidnapped in the past.
The police have cordoned off the area and started further investigation into the case.
Later, Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain strongly condemned the killing of Nasrullah Afridi and said terrorists would be eliminated at every cost. He said terrorists in the Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa province are being targeted.
He said the provincial government would continue fighting against terrorism.
President and Prime Minister Pakistan have taken the notice and ordered to investigate the case. They also sought report of the blast.
