Islamabad: Chairperson National Assembly Standing on Finance Fouzia Wahab has made it clear that the wages of Government employees can not be increased in next budget for financial year of 2011-12 due to non-increase in Government’s revenue.
“Over 750,000 people who are enjoying luxury life do not Pay taxes and notices would be dispatched to them”, she said this while talking to media men after committee meeting on Friday. Replying to a question, he said, the committee was briefed by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) about taxes target for next fiscal year. The tax target would be Rs. 1952 billion rupees for next year, she said, adding that, Pakistan railway should be used instead of National Logistic Cell for Pak-Afghan transit trade.
When asked about increase in salaries of Government employees in budget, she said, the Government faces shortage of resources. We don’t have much income therefore increase in salaries of employees would be impossible, she added.
Deficiencies in tax system would be removed, she said. The committee, she said, has directed FBR to pinpoint names of those who are not paying taxes. Budget, she said, is being made in difficult circumstances and but she claimed the budget would be people friendly.
The Government’s income would be increased if RGST were imposed, she said. Budget for next finical year would be tabled in the National Assembly on May 28, she added.
