Karachi: Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement member of Sindh Assembly has been shot dead in Karachi, the southern city of Pakistan, on Friday late night, said police.
Superintendent of Police Rizwan Wasti said that unidentified armed miscreants riding a bike opened fire on a vehicle no GL-0340 in front of a marriage hall alongside Abul Hassan Afhahani Road near Maskan roundabout, killing 45-year-old Sheikh Liaquat Qureshi. He said the accused managed to escape after the swift operation.
The SP said Qureshi was also the member of MQM’s legal aid committee. He said at the time of incident Qureshi was alone and driving government vehicle.
He said the shooting seemed an incident of target killing. He said the deceased received a single bullet.
The deceased nominated MPA from Liayari in 1993 and 1997. The deceased was very active worker of MQM legal aid committee. He had joined MQM in eightees.
While eye witnesses said that two persons riding a bike opened fire on the vehicle and fled.
The deceased was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.
Member of MQM Rabta (Coordination) Committee Faisal Sabzwari has confirmed the death of Qureshi. He condemned the incident and demanded for the early arrest of the accused.
Later, MQM chief Altaf Hussain also condemned the incident of killing Liaquat Ali Qureshi.
