Manama: Four Shiite protesters were sentenced to death and three others were given life prison, convicted of killing two security personnel during the last month anti-government protest.
Ali Abdullah Hasan, Qasim Hassan Mattar, Saeed Abdul Jalil Saeed, and Abdul Aziz Abdullah Ibrahim, were sentenced to death, ex-MP from Al-Wefaq Shia opposition group, Matar Matar, said.
Human rights groups claimed the trial, which was conducted in secret, had no legal credibility: It was simply a “warning, saying this is how we will treat you if you continue to demand your rights.”
At least 32 people have been killed and hundreds others have been detained since protests erupted on February 15.
