Islamabad: Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that lack of resources and judicial staff was causing unnecessary delay in dispensation of justice. He said that the Judiciary was facing several challenges in the country.
He was speaking at the final session of the three-day Judicial Conference. Chief Justices of Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and Peshawar High courts, judges of districts courts and representative form India and the US took part in the conference.
The CJ said that accused were released due to shortcomings of investigation process and the courts are blamed for not convicting the accused. ‘As far as investigation is concerned it is very poor” the CJ remarked. He observed confidence of people had improved in the courts following the lawyer’s movement, adding that the Constitution provided the people with freedom of expression. Justice Chaudhry said that independent judiciary was a backbone of any country.
He dispelled the notion that the judiciary was intervening in the government’s affairs.
Senior most judge of the SC Justice Javed Iqbal has said that the SC would itself deal the issue of missing persons.
Justice Javed in his recommendation observed that a separate bench of the apex court was mandatory to be formed to resolve the missing persons issue.
He said that action would be taken against those responsible for missing of citizens.
Justice Javed said that concept of mobile phone should be materialize in the remote areas of the country.
Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ejaz Afza in his working group recommendations suggested that lawyers and civil society should play their role in eliminating corruption in the judiciary as only judges could not handle the issue.
Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Fayiz Esa recommended that judicial lockups should be given status of sub jail in the far flung areas of the country.
