Peshawar: Some three thousand Afghan refugees from various parts of Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa province voluntarily left the country for Afghanistan.
The systematic voluntary return of Afghan Refugees started last month under the auspices of United Nation High Commissioner of Refugees (UNHCR), which has made special arrangements for possible safe return of Afghan Refugees to their homeland.
According to the UNHCR sources, within a month almost three thousand Afghan refugees went back to Afghanistan through the route of Tourkhum.
The sources revealed that almost half of the refugees that went back to Afghanistan were living in different areas of KPK and tribal areas while the remaining half were residing in Punjab and Sindh.
UNHCR has also provided financial assistance to Afghan refugees that voluntary went back to their own country. However, the pace of repatriation of Afghan refugees was very slow.
